چکیده

Policymaking is both an art and a science. It is a long process of research, debate and consensus (where possible). The elaboration of the Framework for Responsible Sharing of Genomic and Health-Related Data serves as an illustration of this process.

Whither Mental Health Policy-Where Does It Come from and Does It Go Anywhere Useful?; Comment on “Cross-National Diffusion of Mental Health Policy”

Factors influencing cross-national diffusion of mental health policy are important to understand but complex to research. This commentary discusses Shen’s research study on cross-national diffusion of mental health policy; examines the extent to which the three questions researched by Shen (whether countries are more likely to have a mental health policy (a) the earlier a country becomes a memb...

Utilizing Partial Policies for Identifying Equivalence of Behavioral Models

We present a novel approach for identifying exact and approximate behavioral equivalence between models of agents. This is significant because both decision making and game play in multiagent settings must contend with behavioral models of other agents in order to predict their actions. One approach that reduces the complexity of the model space is to group models that are behaviorally equivale...

Ramped Half-n-Half Initialisation Bias in GP

Tree initialisation techniques for genetic programming (GP) are examined in [4,3], highlighting a bias in the standard implementation of the initialisation method Ramped Half-n-Half (RHH) [1]. GP trees typically evolve to random shapes, even when populations were initially full or minimal trees [2]. In canonical GP, unbalanced and sparse trees increase the probability that bigger subtrees are s...

How Does Monetary Policy Affect Household Income Distribution?

Over the last decades the research on monetary policy has largely concentrated on the impact of monetary authorities’ decisions on inflation and the fine-tuning of the macroeconomic, so that distributional effects of monetary policy which are non-trivial has been ignored. A view that has become increasingly popular since the financial crisis 2008 is that expansionary monetary policy can exacerb...

Macro-evolutionary models and coalescent point processes: The shape and probability of reconstructed phylogenies

Forward-time models of diversification (i.e., speciation and extinction) produce phylogenetic trees that grow “vertically” as time goes by. Pruning the extinct lineages out of such trees leads to natural models for reconstructed trees (i.e., phylogenies of extant species). Alternatively, reconstructed trees can be modelled by coalescent point processes (CPP), where trees grow “horizontally” by ...
